Ric Mills

A Short Introduction...

"My life has always orbited around music. It’s taught me resilience and strength and impacted my life in more ways than I can count. I’ve composed hundreds of scores. In fact, millions of people have been moved by my music worldwide – through my work with Universal Production Music in Australia, the UK finally in the US. I’ve won awards for the way it connected audiences with the action and the characters on screen, one award was given for 'Best Musical Score' by Oscar nominated Hollywood Film Director Bruce Beresford. But my music isn't just a backdrop to some else's tv show, it's also my own soundtrack to my life. The original piano scores you will find here are my little take on the world and although composed using well-worn formulas, they are I hope a small auditory glimpse of the man I am. If you’re looking for music that reaches deep into your soul, I invite you to close your eyes and immerse yourself in my music."

Notable Tracks /Features

Being

Being

Piano & String Quartet

This piece is about just 'being'. Being present in the moment, being quiet, finding peace within yourself and listening to the inner voice. You are not waiting or hoping to become, everything you need to be you already are. Living for the only thing we have for certain; the present moment. This score is a personal snapshot of my own journey, with all the positive and negative spinning around - the slow, repetitive and monotonous days; along with the faster, more anxious moments that fly in and out of my life, ultimately resting in the peace that only comes, with simply 'being’.

The Circle (Found)

The Circle (Found)

Piano & String Quartet Album

As a composer, I’ve been writing music for other people for years. Found is about taking time to do something for yourself & finding your passion. This is one of my personal favourites, a simple yet beautiful score - 'The Circle'.

Orchestral Album

Memorising orchestral cues that conjure up a magical, fantasy, adventurous & romantic backdrop. Ric creates a gorgeous piece here for the Budapest Scoring Orchestra, in fact, one of Scala's favourites, it's called 'Winter Love'.

In The Bleak Midwinter

In The Bleak Midwinter

Piano Solo Single

Ric transports the listener into the world of ye olde English Christmas of 1872. Words by Poet Christina Rossetti inspired Gustav Holst's classic piece 'In The Bleak Midwinter' about the coming of Jesus but set to the backdrop of the cold of winter. Usually a beautiful four part choral hymn Ric has reworked this classic to become a deeply evocative score crossing the worlds of neoclassical and jazz influences. Played in the background of any Christmas home this piece is sure to put you in the right mood for a Christmas we have all long awaited.

How I Wonder What You Are

How I Wonder What You Are

Piano Solo Single

There is mystery about everyone. Only you really know yourself. A rare single I’ve written hopefully speaks to you directly… “how I wonder what you are”. . .

The music in my repertoire is self-published with distribution by a locally based distributor on a non-exclusive basis and can easily be transferred exclusively to become represented by a new record label. I am looking for both representation on my music and on me as a classical artist. I am excited to take my music into new directions to become a sound that sits somewhere strangely but wonderfully between Max Richter and Hans Zimmer. Gently emotive, but also hugely epic.
